Photography

Staunton, VA

I have been shooting photographs professionally in a variety of situations since the early 1990′s, mainly as a part of my preservation/architectural work.  In 2007 I expanded my practice to pursue photography as a Fine Art – as well as these commercial offerings:

As for gear, I shoot with a variety of cameras including full frame Canon DSLR (both the 1Ds Mark III and the 5D) and Lumix mirror-less system (GF1). These camera bodies share an assortment of Canon “L” series lenses and Voigtlander manual focus lenses.

I am a big fan of using tripods and use an assortment of those as well – including a 24′ telescoping tripod that allows me to gain unique perspectives both in my preservation work and other photographic pursuits. My love of tripods grows out of my interest in both night photography and infra-red photography.

My small studio in historic downtown Staunton, VA provides me with a space to do studio work in portraiture and product photography. I can also do this type of work on location with portable light boxes and back drops.

My photos have been published in Virginia Living, Inform Magazine, The APT Bulletin, Preservation Magazine, Building Design + Construction Magazine and in the following books: Recording Historic Structures and Hamsun Holl Hamroy.

I show my work as “fine art” from time to time (next show will be at Newtown Baking in August 2011) and keep some prints available for sale at Wysiwyg Gallery on West Beverley Street and at the R. R. Smith Center for History and Art on New Street – both in Staunton.

Thank you for your interest!
